The Grocer aims to be a zero-waste, sustainable and ethically responsible business.
Organic and local foods are prioritised, and our preference is to stock products from New Zealand producers. Imported specialty products are included in the mix where local alternatives aren’t available.
As a small owner-operator business it’s easier to monitor how much and when to order so that food waste is minimised. Anything left at best before date goes home or to Wai Waste Food Rescue to be shared with those in our community who need help.
Packaging from supplier deliveries is reused for shipping online orders, and cardboard boxes are given to local businesses to re-purpose.
Where possible, products are sourced from businesses who take care to minimise their impact on the environment and treat workers fairly.
This is an ongoing journey, but we are committed to continual improvement.
