About The Grocer

“Hello, I’m pleased to share with you my shop The Grocer. A deli-grocery in the Wairarapa village of Martinborough, it’s a small space with lots to discover. The shop is filled with the gourmet and local foods you’d want to find in a neighbourhood delicatessen and products that I personally love. I’m keen to know what customers like, so what’s on offer keeps evolving. Please come in and have a chat.” - Celia Jenkins

The Grocer is located in Martinborough in New Zealand’s Wairarapa region, known for its exceptional wines, olive oils and artisan food producers. The heritage building in the heart of the village was built for retail, in 1906 housing a hairdresser, tobacconist and fancy goods depot. It has won an award from Victoria University as a fine example of New Zealand vernacular building.

Celia Jenkins has always wanted to create a food shop with a special atmosphere. With a background in arts marketing, she enjoys a creative challenge. She was inspired to create a small-scale business, and to run the shop herself so she can respond directly to customers.

Having spent many holidays with her grandmother in Martinborough, Celia feels a strong affinity with the place she now calls home. She devotes her energy to providing an irresistible selection of food for locals and visitors to find at The Grocer.
